If you have been oblivious to the opportunities lucid dreaming provides you with, read on.
Think of a world where everything is possible. You could be a part of this. Think of a world which is a fresh start every day. You could be a part of this too. Think of a dimension where you end up marrying your childhood crush ( not sure if it ever is a good idea), you could be a part of any of these crazy fantasies.
I want you to try this on a dull day when you wish you had a little magic to life.
- Set up an hourly chime/alarm app: Android users click here and Apple users over here. This will enable you to perform reality checks throughout the day. Ask yourself if you are in the real world or if you are in a dream every time the reminder goes off. Count your fingers, look at yourself in a mirror. If you were in a dream, you may find yourself with eleven or more fingers, find a distorted face of yourself in the mirror or lose a sense of gravity. Reality checks are important for you to have control over your dreams.
- The conventional sleep cycle lasts 90 minutes. Looking at the graph presented below, we can see that after every final stage of sleep ( stage 3 and 4), we surface to a state that is similar to being awake ( after cycle 2 and cycle 4 in the example). We shall set an alarm which would wake us up after the 2nd or the 4th cycle ie, after 3 hours or 6 hours of sleep.
- Once we wake up in the middle of the night, we set a timer for 15-20 minutes, during which we are out of our bed, doing something, could be anything!
- Remember our hourly chime app as mentioned in step one? Set it to start chiming the next hour after your FIRST wake up. You could do this during the day when you are setting up the app for the first time.
- After your timer goes off, go back to bed, relieved. You would be having a dream during this cycle.
- When you wake up, try to record your dream somewhere somehow with minimum motor movement. Use the phone beside you to record an audio of the dream or type it out in your memo. Don't move too much or the memories of your dream might fog out.
Kindly drop a comment about your experiences if you have tried this out.
This method is known as WAKE BACK TO BED.
You should know that any human has an average of 5 dreams per night! You are missing out on a lot of crazy stuff in your head. Knock yourself out tonight!
Tip: Avoid smoking, drinking, drugs or anything that gets you to bed out of shape and has your body under heavy maintenance during rest.
Yoga and meditation are very helpful.
Happy Lucid
Dreaming!
